INCONSISTENT AND NON-STUDIOUS- BUT AMBITIOUS NONETHELESS

Dear Ella and Suse
I want to get an admission in the best college of India. For that I have to work hard. But I am often incosistent. If I study very seriously for a week, I'll loose interest in the next week. This inconsistency is being seen not only in my studies, but also in other fields such as working out, music etc. Please suggest a remedy for my inconsistency. Please suggest books which make me studious.
Yours
A non-studious and inconsistent guy
Dear Inconsistent and Non-Studious,
This is a very interesting ailment, which we are glad you have brought to our attention. We feel perhaps that it is a modern ailment, partly caused by, or at least abetted by, the internet, hand-held devices with their eternal ability to distract, and the prevalence of idle opportunity in every directions. Perhaps also, you have a lack of drive, and you need to delve into your soul to find that. Although you clearly have ambition, there is something stopping you from taking the necessary steps to get where you want to go. To help to cure you of this issue, we urge you to read two books.
To help you become a more dedicated worker, we give you The Count of Monte Christo by Alexandre Dumas. This may be a book that you have already read, but we insist you read it again. The Count is a man who is wronged, and he decides he must wreak his revenge. In order to do so, he must escape from prison, and this takes him 14 years. While in prison, he learns many languages and much general wisdom about the world, from a fellow inmate. The Count's single-minded dedication to one idea will rub off on you and make you into a person passionate to educate yourself, focussing solely on your ultimate goal.
Next read The Agony and the Ecstasy by Irving Stone, which is the story of Michleangelo and how he came to paint the Sistine Chapel. The story is told with fabulous gusto and pleasure, and is a gripping read, but also Michelangelo's character is inspiringly passionate about his craft. You must become as obsessed with your goals as he was. Take heart from both of these fictional characters, and now set your sights on your goal. If you really want it, you need to put in those hours, not only to the books, but to the treadmill too.
Yours,
Ella and Suse
