BROKEN HEARTED - TORN BETWEEN MALE AND FEMALE BEST FRIENDS

Dear Ella and Suse
Hi,I'm a 16 year old girl who has a big problem with her two best friends. My female best friend and I quarrelled about the fact that she thinks that I give more attenctions to my male best friend and she said that she needs time to trust me  again and I feel so bad about it. On the opposite side me and my male best friend argue a lot about silly things, but when we argue and we don't talk to each other he doesn't seem to care and I'm afraid of losing him. When I'm feeling down I usually read contemporary novels (usually love novels), but now i can't find anything that could make me feel better, please help me. Yours,
A Broken-Hearted girl
Dear Broken Hearted,
This is a difficult situation for you! It is great that you have two such strong relationships, and it sounds like you are dealing with the situation well, Just as an aside, we would like to say –hold on to those female friendships, they are very important – and often last longer in the long run! But we don’t want to prejudice you. We are glad that you turn to novels when you feel down, as this is a good habit. We have two suggestions for you - one to help you with your female friendship, and remind you that this may well be forever - which is The Group, by Mary McCarthy. This is the novel that came before Sex and the City - which describes the friendships of a group of women who stick together through thick and thin, from when they leave college, for the next seven years. This novel does begin in 1933, so it is from an older time - but it is always relevent, and beautifully written.
Now, for your male friendship. The Best thing that Ever Happened to Me by Laura Tait and Jimmy Rice is a novel written by best friends, which in itself encouraging for you! The novel describes a friendship between a man and a woman over ten years, moving from romance to friendship, and back. This is a funny, heartwarming, entertaining read, which you could also find on audio if you would like to listen to it.
Yours,
Ella and Suse
