BIBLIOTHERAPY IS THE THEME OF THIS YEAR’S SYDNEY WRITERS FESTIVAL

Yes, you read that right. Not only will Susan be on stage with Ceridwen Dovey of The New Yorker talking about some of the exciting science now backing up the transformative effects of fiction (next Thursday 19th at 10am on the 2/3 Pier, for our Australian readers - see Don't Miss for details) and prescribing cures throughout the festival in a beautifully decorated Literary Healing Room, complete with chaise longue... but several of the events featuring major authors will focus on how books have shaped their lives. You can hear Jeanette Winterson, Kate Tempest and Vivian Gornick talk about the books that saved them, Damon Young on the art of reading, and Jonathan Franzen on the story of his reading life. The festival kicks off next Tuesday night and runs through til Sunday (17th-22nd May), with many of the events happening on the tips of the piers at Walsh Bay.
